Soil Science

Introduction

Most of the nutrient elements that are ingested by animals grazing on plants are rapidly returned to the soil as urine and feces, with the remainder being retained within the animal or exported as animal products (e.g., milk). Most N and K are cycled back to the soil in urine, while dung is responsible for the return of most P, Ca, and Mg.
