Soil moisture tension key

The porosity of the soil—the number, size, shape, and continuity of pores—affects many soil physical properties, including infiltration, water movement, and water-holding capacity.

The porosity of the soil also affects the basic phase relations of the soil, i.e., the relative proportions of solid, liquid, and gas.
