Texture triangle

Soils with comparable proportions of sand, silt, and clay are categorized into a soil textural class.

The International textural triangle encompasses 11 textural classes.

 

In the example above, a soil composed of 20% clay, 20% silt, and 60% sand would be classified as loam.
