Soil Science

Introduction

The soil texture is determined by the proportion of mineral particles in the sand, silt, and clay-sized fractions of the soil. This texture significantly influences various essential soil chemical and physical properties, including:

  • Cation exchange capacity
  • Surface area
  • Plant available water
  • Soil water movement
  • Aggregation
  • Response to compaction

Soil texture can be determined through particle size analysis as well as by manual methods, such as field texture assessment.
