Soil Science

Root Growth vs Soil Strength

The rate of root elongation is affected by many soil parameters.

You can explore the effects of soil type (coherence), wetness (water content), and compaction (bulk density or state of compactness) by examining the surface 5 cm layer of six soil scenarios.

Your task is to select Water Content and Compactness levels that will create the same root growth in the right hand model as the chosen soil scenario on the left.
